Ammunition, targets, guns, holsters and all training equipment are provided at no extra cost.
Prior to taking the firearms course, take and pass the psychological exam. The psychological assessment is provided by a company called "PSI". The cost for this is $65 paid directly to PSI. www.psiexams.com. The assessment is named the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16pf)
Upon successful passing of the psychological assessment, and taking/passing the fire arms course, you may then submit your initial application on www.breeze.ca.gov. The cost for this is $100 paid directly to BSIS.
Your Firearm Permit is valid for two years. Upon receiving your initial Firearms Permit, you must re-qualify (shoot) every four to six months. Not earlier than four months and no later than six months!
Firearms Requirements for Security Guards, Alarm Agents, Private Investigators and Private Patrol Operators:
State I.D. is required, you must be 21 years of age or older! Plus proof of citizenship or legal residency. Bring one of the following!
Your County Registered Birth Certificate, Military I.D., DD214 or your US Passport!

Even if you are licensed or registered in the security, alarm, or private investigation fields, you may not carry a gun on duty – whether loaded or unloaded – unless you have been issued an exposed firearm permit by the Department of Consumer Affairs. You must keep the permit with you at all times while on duty.
Note: It is illegal for a licensee or registrant to carry a concealed weapon on duty without a permit issued by local authorities.
